So… through the looking glass and down the rabbit hole and into Orwell speak
Yesterday we saw two magnificent examples of political double think.
- James Reilly, the minister for health, announced another (is it now monthly?) rise in health insurance costs. The numbers of persons covered by private health insurance is down 11% from peak and falling at a pretty steady 1% per quarter. So how does this square with the programme for government and ongoing plank of health policy to have everyone by 2016 covered by private health insurance?
- The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform has introduced, late in the day and wafted through by the usual coterie of baa baa baaackbenchers, a raft of increases in cost for Freedom of Information requests. This squares how with the programme for government statement to “restore” FOI legislation to what it was pre 2007?
